My fonts disappear!

I have about 650 fonts in my system folder (Publisher
2003). Each morning when I open a document from the
previous day's work, there are some fonts missing (that I
just used the previous time I opened the document). I
have reinstalled the fonts - only to find them missing
again the next time I open the document. I have been
using Publisher for many years and have never experienced
this problem before....

Do I have too many fonts?

Could this be a Publisher 2003 issue?

This has nothing whatsoever to do with Publisher, this is a Windows issue.
As you're running 2003, you can only be using either 2000 or XP (my guess is
you're running XP Home). Windows 2000/XP doesn't have a limit to the number
of fonts you have installed, other than the available disk space. The
"system folder" (I assume you mean the fonts folder located in
<systemroot>/fonts) has nothing whatsoever to do with Publisher. Are the
fonts physically installed in the fonts folder?

Yes, the fonts are located in C:/windows/fonts.

Are you using a font manager? Maybe the association has changed. Do the fonts you are
trying to use have a shortcut symbol when viewed in the fonts folder?
