Need help before moving to Office Pro 2007

I have office 2003 professional installed on my XP desktop. I want to backup
my outlook PST file and use it in the full/Professional version of Office Pro
2007 which I just received. But I have a few problems with 2003 that I don't
want to pull into 2007. I plan on backing up my PST file, uninstalling Office
Pro 2003 and installing Office Pro 2007.

1. In Outlook, when I create a new email and click the address book icon to
pick a contact, no contacts are found. When I click the contacts folder, it
is loaded with contacts. How do I get my contacts available to choose from?

2. When I upgrade to 2007, what is the proper way to make sure my contacts
are available in outlook?

2. Outlook 2003 Pro displays two sets of personal folders. I’ve compared
both and they are identical. I've seen a few postings that say the profile.
I've checked the folder storing the PST file and there is only one PST file
there and an extend file.

How do I resolve these problems?

Hi Tony,

I switched to Office 2007 a while ago so I may not be able to provide the
exact steps but I'll try to get as close as possible:

1) I remember getting fooled by this one. You need to right-click on the
contacts folder in the left pane. Somewhere in one of the Properties tabs is
a check box telling it to to be displayed as an e-mail address book (perhaps
the Outlook Address Book tab??)...wish I could remember the exact
phrase...I'm sure someone else will remember.

2) I didn't have to go through the step outlined above for Outlook 2007. My
Contacts were visible by default. That may be because they were visible to me
in Outlook 2003 prior to upgrading.

3) The source of a duplicate personal folder might be found in Account
Settings - data files. You should be able to delete one. As long as you have
a copy of your PST file, you can experiment to see what works.

I followed your suggestion about going into properties on contacts and
checking that box. it worked, but I'm not sure about safely deleting the
duplicate personal Folder.

1. You need to install the Outlook Addresss Book SErvice. Control Panel->Mail Icon->Accounts->Directories->View or Change. Add it from there. Stop and restart Outlook.

2. Reuse your outlook.pst file by using the open option. However, it should be recognized if this is an upgrade scenario.

3. YOu have a corrupt profile. Installing Outlook 2007 should fix this as it creates a new profile but if not, go to Control Panel->Mail Icon->Profiles and create a new one and configure it to use your current ..pst file.

Duplicate Personal Folders are often as a result of a corrupt Profile.
Use the mail Applet in the control Panel to create a new Profile, add your
data file and accounts
