Don't use Publisher.

Yes, you *can* do a lovely resume in Publisher. And if you *only* intend to
print it or use a .pdf file, you'll be fine. However, a lot of online places
will allow you to upload a .doc file or fill everything in manually. You
cannot cleanly convert your Publisher file to a Word doc. You'll end up
spending as much time cleaning it up as you do trying to find out how to put
what you can do into writing. Use Word to create your resume, save it as a
..doc file - and then save it as a text only file. Some sites want plain text
only.

This advice is coming from someone who been dealing with employment sites
and submitting resumes to prospective companies for the last couple of
years. And it has been very helpful to have a best friend in HR who gives me
the inside scoop on what goes on once your resume reaches them. She's
*never* had Publisher on her work computers.
