Need to know when plans were deleted.

Last week a couple of plans were removed from the server.
None of the people authorized to remove plans can confirm having done so.
While we can restore them from the nightly backups I want to know who
deleted the plans and when.

My DBA says that when a project is gone it is gone and there is no record
that the plan was ever there.

I am not sure I beleive that, because I know, for example, when a resource
gets deleted with the "Admin | Clean up the Project Server database" the word
"Deleted" and the date are appended to the account name. So, the resource is
still there in some resource table its just not visible in the resource pool.

I am guessing also that there should be some sort of external or internal
event log that would provide that kind of information.

Would using Event Viewer with SetTracing or EventCombMT get me what I need
to know?

I would like to take some suggestions to the DBA and ask him to build an
exception notification report so I can monitor this kind of activity.

Thanks in advance for any advice...

Unfortunately, no audit trail type information is stored in the database
tables when a project is deleted.

To piggyback on Brian's answer, the default permissions in Project Server
allow members of the Project Managers group to delete any of the projects to
which they have Read/Write access. I suspect one of your PM's may have
deleted the projects in question, intentionally or accidentally. I would
strongly recommend that you disable this permission by completing the
following steps:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage users and groups
3. Click the Groups link in the sidepane on the left
4. Select the Project Managers group and click the Modify Group button
5. Select the My Organization category in the Categories section
6. In the Permissions grid, make sure that neither Allow or Deny is
selected for the Delete Project permission
7. Select the My Projects category
8. In the Permissions grid, make sure that neither Allow or Deny is
selected for the Delete Project permission
9. Click the Save Changes button

Hope this helps.

a. To Restore:

Use 'Restore Single Project' tool
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...77-4d8e-4ed9-91f4-7b4a2bc5bce8&DisplayLang=en

b. You can do two things to avoid this for future

b1. Implement security on project plans using categories & groups. (Refer to
dale's reply). Work & find what works best for your environment.

b2. Check this article as a help to set some audit trail
