new computer, how to get fonts from old computer?

I have about 500 fonts that I added in from various different sources on my
old laptop that I need to get onto my new laptop.
I did a save of my font folder with ALL of the fonts (the ones that came
with my laptop and the additional 500 I installed) and have it on a
thumbdrive.
How do I go about installing all of the fonts that I don't currently have on
my new laptop? Or, do I just go and install all of them and replace the
duplicates?

Thanks!

Don't just copy the folder over. IIRC, there's a super-hidden file in
the fonts folder that can mess up your system if you copy it.

You can select all the icons for your fonts and just drag them to the
Fonts folder on the new computer. I suggest you click NO if it asks
if you want to replace/overwrite the fonts that are on the new
computer. I always move MS Arial Unicode out of the FONTS folder. I
rarely need it, and it's the biggest font in the world.

But I wonder -- do you need to have all 500+ fonts installed at the
same time? I only have about 15 fonts installed. I created a FONTS
ARCHIVE folder right next to my FONTS folder, and most of my fonts are
sleeping there.

thanks for that, Lady D,
I do graphic art and use lots of fonts. I would not necessarily know how to
manage 2 font folders, how do you do that?
I should have clarified that I did not copy the actual font folder, per se,
but rather selected the fonts within the folder and copied those over to a
new folder on my external harddrive.
I have been praying for the past few days that all of my migration and
installation goes smoothly. I hate moving computers.
