Newbie Question - Password for link

D

Dan

Is there a way to have the site request a password when clicking on a link?
I don't need huge hacker proof security just so the average person visiting
the site has to enter the correct password to go to that page?

TIA

You need to put the page the link opens in a separate folder or subweb.

HOW TO: Apply Password Protection to Part of a Web Using FrontPage 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;301554

It says FrontPage 2000 but it applies to all versions.

You either need security or you don't. Sounds like you don't, as that is
what you have described.

Here's the issue: First, you have some content that you don't want uninvited
people to view, I would guess. If that content requires security, it
requires REAL security. The type of security you've described is not
security at all. It's a big, bad web out there. So, if you don't require
REAL security, you don't require security.

To do security right, you need to do some network admin stuff and/or some
server-side programming. To do security wrong, just save yourself the
trouble. The end result would be the same.

Don't make the (common) mistake that what you think is "average" is average,
or that it has any bearing on your security issue. There are over 7 billion
people all over the world. If, for example, you have an IQ that falls into
the top 1 percent of all IQs, guess what? There are 70 million people in the
world smarter than you.
