Newbies needs help with resource names

Dear All,

Please ignore my ignorance at what i am sure is a very simple question.

I am very new to MS project (2003) and have taken over a collegeas very
large programme.
During the year he had been running it whenever he typed a name in the
resource name column, he occationally spelt it wrong and as such
whenever i add a new task the drop down box shows lots of different
spellings.
Is there a way to edit this list and remove all redundant names ??

Once again sorry if its a very easy question but i have exhausted
google and all my learned friends to no avail.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Hello Phil,

I there is no actuals in this project, it is easy to replace the wrong names
by the right one : use the Replace button of the Assign Resource dialog.
For ex you have Peter, Piter, Peeter. you want to keep only Peter
Select all the tasks
Clic the Assign Resource button in the tool bar
Select Piter in the dialog
Click the Replace button
Select Peter
Click OK
Do the same thing for Peeter.
Now, in the Resource Sheet, you can delete the 2 wrong resources Piter and
Peeter.

Problem : if some actuals have been entered on tasks, the Replace feature
don't replace the resource on the Actual duration.

Once you get them sorted out, go to the Tools/Options menu, the General tab,
and clear the checkbox next to "Automatically Add New Resources and Tasks,"
then click the "Make Default" button. Save the file. Double check to make
sure this ^$&^^#%$ setting hasn't turned itself back on whenever you open a
file.

To add a bit - this setting will not prevent you entering a mis-spelled
resource name, but it will give you a dialog asking if you want to add this
new resource. That is a clue to you that a mis-spelling has occurred.

Please can you help?

I am having a problem amending the case of entries in the Resource names
field.
Project 2003 does not seem to allow me to change a name between Capitol's
and lower case - is there a way around this?

Many Thanks
Jo

There's no "change case" menu tool like you have with Word, if that's what
you mean, but that should be no problem. Just go the the Resource Sheet and
re-type the name as you want to see it.
