No auto send/receive when opening Outlook 2002

I recently reinstalled windows xp and office xp on a new hard drive. I created two desktops. I use Outlook 2002 and my wife uses Outlook Express 6. I have set Outllook on my desktop as the default. Both programs work on their respective desktops with one exception. I have to manually click send/receive to receive mail, even when opening the program. I've had this problem once before but do not remember how I stumbled across the fix. I have not installed the office service packs yet. Any help will be greatly appreciated

In Outlook 2002, automatic polling on launch is linked to the automatic
polling interval. Once you set an automatic polling interval in Send/Receive
groups, you will get a poll on launch.
