I have a copy of word 2007 pro and it appears that the normal.dotm fil
has been corrupted. when ever I open the application I get a dialo
box that says the normal dot template has benn changed do I want t
open a new one.

I can open a document but can not use the mouse inside the document.

I tried the repair utilty that comes with office, I tried removin
word, and reinstalling but nothing works.

any suggestions

Without word being open, search the computer for all instances of
normal.docm and delete them (make sure show hidden files/folders is selected
in Explorer View). When you start Word again it will be recreated. Should
solve your issue. Let us know the outcome.

LVTravel,

Thanks for the info. I deleted all instances [only found 2] emptie
the recycle bin, powered down and restarted. opened word and receive
a messasge "word has save a copy of Normal.dotm, would you like to loa
it?" Answered NO and word opened. I still have the same problem,
can't use the mouse inside the document.

Did a search for normal dotm and it is in the same place, deleted i
again, emptied.... Searched for normal.dotm and there was nothin
there.

any ideas? I am going to try and get a copy of the file from anothe
machine and insert it and see if that rectifies the issue.

I was able to get a copy of the normal.dotm file and load it. When I
started word, it did not recognize the clean copy that I loaded. it
Generated a corrupted version and used it. However if I put
"%programfiles%\microsoft office\office12\winword.exe" /a into the
search box it finds the clean file and I can open a fully functioning
word doc. the down side is that I can not double click a word file to
open it. If I do then it uses the corrupt file.

This work around is a little combersome but I am not dead in the
water.

Does anyone know which file(s) generate the normal.dotm file?

The Word program creates the Normal.dotm file. If it finds one it will use
it (unless corrupt). If it can't find one it will create it as my original
post said. If you are attempting to use a normal.dotm file from another
computer, it is a wonder that it would work at all.

Again, remove all instances of normal.dotm from the computer, including the
recycle bin, start Word and allow it to create and use the new copy.
