Not able to install Office 2000

Mi

I have tried and tried and still nada. I keep getting
error 2755. I closed the anti virus, installed office 97
first, tried restoring, etc.. but still I get the same and
the version keeps deleting itself at some point. It does
install (without "Help") but later disappears.
Can anybody help??

Susan,
Thank you for the help in the error 2755 in putting Office
2000 into Windows XP. The knowledge base article 217714
sounds right on track. Now my only problem is how do I
locate the Installer folder so I can change the
permissions settings? I obviously am not the brightest one
out here. Help, please?

Thanks.
Scott!

Hi, Scott,

Depends on your operating system. Try c:\winnt\installer or
c:\windows\installer.

What of the users trying to install Office 2000 on an XP
Home PC as you have only Sharing permissions to modify?
This article pertains to those using XP Professional.

How do I change the permissions if I am using Windows XP
Home? There are only Share permissions.

I'm not sure about XP Home, but can you log into the machine as
Adminstrator? If so, then install it as Administrator. You should then
have full permissions to the Windows Installer folder.

Mi.

And you Scott thought you were not the brightest??!!
I found the installer file in Windows but that's about it.
Could not go any further. 9 numbered files were in the
folder but could not find any Everyone - Read
Administrators - Full System - Full. Can you please
possibly guide me from here??
Thank you.

Hi, Mi.,

Right-click the folder and choose "Properties". There should be a
"Security" tab where you can set the permissions for "Everyone" to "Read",
and "Administrators" to "Full". Make sure you're logged in as the machine
administrator.

Does that help?
