not being able to save .doc, .xls, .ppt files to file server

our network is having problem with saving .doc, .xls,
and .ppt files to one of our servers. We are not sure if
it is a virus or not. It does allow us to save access
documents. Any suggestions??? If we change the word
document to a .txt then the document can be saved.
