Notification of new messages

Is there any way of being able to set up an icon or
something that will tell me when a new message arrvies so
that I don't spend forever going back and forth to check.
I know I can have an audible sound, but this is not
pratical at work.

Displaying an envelope in the Notification Area is enabled by default;
Tools-> Options-> tab Preferences-> button E-mail Options-> button Advanced
E-mail Options.

In case this is still enabled and don't see the envelope;
