Office 2000 Pro - Word fails as it is invoked

J

Jimmy

As soon as I try to open any file in Word, I get the following error:

Document1 - Microsoft Word: WINWORD.EXE - Application Error

The instruction at "0x30395c27" referenced memory at "0x00000034". The
memory could not be read.

I have tried to reload the Office 2000 Pro. It did not fix the error.

When I try to open the word with winword /a, it opens a blank word document
without any error. What is /a used for?

Any ideas of how I can fix this problem?

The /a is used to start Word without loading Normal.dot or any global
templates or add-ins and without reference to the Registry. That is, it
loads a plain-vanilla, out-of-the-box default copy of Word. If you can start
Word that way, then you know that there is a problem with Normal.dot, an
add-in, or the Registry. For some troubleshooting steps to help you
eliminate these in turn, see
