Office 2000 Removal/ReInstall

Frusturated

I have been having numerous error messages lately when running my Office 2000 applications. (Not sure if one of my kids got into the computer or not), but I did some research and was told to reinstall Office. I am running XP Home Edition, but after I tried to uninstall, nothing works now. I can't get any Office program to uninstall. I keep getting a message that says "The patch cannot be opened." Searched the microsoft site and there is a fix, but not for XP, so I can't get the stuff uninstalled. Also when I try to launch any of it, it looks for the disk (SR Premium 1), and then gives me the same message about the patch. I have NO idea what happened.

I tried to restore my system to an earlier time, but this has not corrected the problem. Just my Office programs. Can anyone help?

I'm having the same problem. Just installed new hard
drive, and am getting the same message. Fixes are
available for Win98/me or earlier, but nothing is offered
for xp fix. Any suggestions?

Hi, Frustrated,

The fix that you read about is a utility that removes the Windows installer
data so that you can re-install/uninstall Office. But, as you noted, it
only works for Windows installer 1.x. If you have Windows Installer 2.x,
you can manually remove the Windows installer data using the following
instructions. (These were copied from a helpful Microsoft person, so
they're pretty explicit):

1. On the Start menu, click Run.
2. In the Open box, type "Regedit" (without the quotation marks) and then
click OK.
3. Locate and expand the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Installer\Products
4. Below the \Products key, select each 32-character {GUID} until you find
the one whose ProductName value matches your version of Office.
5. With the 32-character {GUID} for your Office product selected, export
this entry for backup.
6. Then please delete the entry from your computer. Restart computer.
7. Then please insert the Office Installation CD to run Setup for Office
again to reinstall Office on the computer to the original folder on your
computer.
8. After installation, please check the issue again.

Hope that helps--
