Office 2000

I have just tried to install Office 2000 which I used to have on my desktop
running
W98SE. After installed I noticed that in Word when I went to Page Setup
instead of getting the drop down list of sizes I just had Custom Size. Any
ideas. I can see that Office 2000 is supposed to be compatible with XP so I
don't know what the problem is.

Hi, Lynn W,

Two questions:

- Did you do a complete install?

- Are your printers set up in the operating system properly?

If you post back, be sure to tell which operating system you have, and where
Office 2000 was obtained: pre-installed on a previous system, retail or
???.

Hi Susan
Thanks for replying. I think I may have realised what the problem is could
it be that there isn't a printer set up on my laptop. My laptop runs
Windows XP pre-installed, well it was but I had to use the System Recovery
software sent with the machine to re-install XP after the laptop failed to
reboot, long story, had laptop for Christmas and had a lot of trouble, none
of it the laptops fault, all to do with software messing up. Kept doing
System Restore and then one time it wouldn't!!
Is there a way to install what's needed without actually installing the
printer if you see what I mean. I have a Canon i550x is has a CD with it.
I think I installed it on my Desktop using Plug and Play for detection but I
did use the CD for the software etc.

Hi, Lynn,

The answer depends on the printer software. You can try the CD (which I
think I'd do), or contact Canon to see what they support.

Thanks for letting me know what the deal was--

Hi Susan
I did start to install a 'printer' (without actually attaching it) but got
into difficulties when it started asking about ports etc.
I installed the CD with all the software on but of course I wasn't sure
whether a driver was on there so I uninstalled again.
When I looked in Device Manager the Printer Port there is LPT1 and the
driver is 5.1.2600.00. Why doesn't that make it work then I wonder.

Hm. If you look under Control Panel | Printers, is it there? Have you set
that now as your default printer?

No it wasn't there. In Programmes there was a folder for Canon i550x but
there was no listing for any Printer in Control Panel/Printers. I have now
uninstalled using the uninstall setting in the folder. I then had trouble
reaching Newsgroups or Mail or Web (probably just a coincidence) but the
only way I could reach anything after connection on my laptop was to do a
System Restore which luckily has worked. i knew it wasn't a problem with the
web etc as I could reach here via my Desktop.

Well, to get your printer installed, you'll probably want to contact Canon,
if it doesn't work the way you expect. In order to have some paper settings
appear in Word, it needs to have a default printer.

Hope that's of some help to you--

Thanks Susan, looks like I'm going to have to set the printer up then on my
laptop. Thanks for all your help.

Just thought I'd let you know, I installed my printer and everything is
working fine now with Word. Thanks for your help.
