office 2003 save as pdf?

I've been told you can do this w/o any add-ins or extra software -- but can't
figure out how. (in Word Perfect, its as easy as "file/ publish to/ pdf").

I use cutepdf which you can download for free from the Internet. Not as
powerful or flexible as Adobe Acrobat, but the price is right. To use it
(and most other utilities) you install the utility and it gives you a pdf
printer driver. Then in any application you print to that printer and end up
with a pdf file instead of a piece of paper.

You were told wrong.
OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org) can do this, it's free, Free,
and compatible with MS Office.

Contest: tell the difference between "free" and "Free"

Word does not have this capability built in. You'd need to purchase and
install Adobe Acrobat.
