Office 2003 uninstalls back to office XP?

When I install office 2003 it gets all of the way to the
end of the installation and then reverts itself back to
office 2002? The installation says that it has completed
but when I run word, etc. it's still office 2002?

Is this an upgrade version? If not, try uninstalling XP and then install
2003.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer,

I tried to uninstall Office XP but I can't (which is why the Office 2003 install must be failing).

The Office XP uninstall goes all the way to the end (my menu items, quick launch icons, etc. disappear) then it automatically starts this rollback process that puts everything back on my system.
