Office 2003 upgrade conflicting with Access 97 database

I have updated a machine from Office 2000 to Office 2003. This machine also
runs a database job that uses Access 97 (we have tested this with a newer
version of Access and it doesn't work without rewrite work). Since the
upgrade we are getting run errors on the database. I am thinking that when
Office 2003 installs it overwrites .DLL files that do not work with Access
97. Am I correct? and if so, is there a way around this so that the machine
has the upgrade AND the database job works?

I have downgraded the machine back to Office 2000 in the meantime.

thanks

Michelle

Did you install these various versions to version specific folders? (Not in
the case of 2003 since by default it does)

PS The last time I converted a db to a newer version it was a fairly
painless process that was all done in a matter of hours, and since you can
work on a copy youre not actually going to lose anything

i didn't specify specifc folders for the install (didn't think of that).
will attempt that route and see if it makes any difference.

this is just one of many db's that needs to be converted.

OfficeXp > Microsoft Office/Office10
Office2003 > Microsoft Office/Office11
Office 2007 > Microsoft Office/Office12

All the above by default during installation
Previous versions select Custom Install to eg Microsoft Office/97 etc

Install earliest version, update
Then move on to next version, update
and so on (only a single instance of Outlook can be installed)
