Office 2003 - WINWORD in Processes but app not open

J

Jeff

I have office 2003. One day I noticed that my computer was running slower
then usual so I went into my processes and noticed WINWORD.EXE was listed in
there even though word is not open on my computer at the time. So I did a
little investigating and come to realize it launches in processes when ever I
open an e-mail in Outlook (by creating new or opening one I just recieved).
As I open and sent several, I noticed the size of memory the WINWORD.EXE
grows (started at 15,000kbs and up to 30,000+kb when I finally killed the
process). Is this a known issue? and if so is it resolved by Service pack (I
do not have installed as of yet on my computer). I'm running XP Professional
SP2 at this time.

I belive this "normal" behaviour. You've told Outlook to use Word as
your editor. If you turn this off, use of Word will cease. It seems to
close down on it's own schedule.

I don't know if any SP's fix or change this. I don't even know if this
is a bug. If there is a fix, it would be an Office Service Pack, not XP.

Unless you are unduly bothered by this ... just ignore it best you can.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
