office 2007 reference fields

I had a beautiful form set up an Office Word 2003 that would automatically
transfer whatever I typed in from one part of the document to another part
using a bookmark on the first and a cross-reference to the second part. I had
this working for about five different items and when I switched to office
2007 I now get "Error! Reference source not found." on all of my fields in
the second part of the document that used to automatically get filled in. I
tried a number of things. I made sure that the name in the second field
match the bookmark name in the first field. That didn't seem to work. (I
also was having a problem in that now when I hit tab I can't lock the
document and it moves the boxes over. Fortunately, I found this little green
circle called "next field" and that works for me, so I don't need help on
that anymore.) I wonder if somebody could talk me through how to make all
the changes from my Office 2003 form to Office 2007, using lay language, not
computerese. In other words, don't make any assumptions that I know what
you're talking about when you make a technical reference. Say it so that a
total novice can understand. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I suspect the only thing that has happened is that the form, opened in Word
2007, has become unprotected. You just need to protect the form, using the
Protect Document button on the Review tab.
