Office 2008 Home and Student

Is Office 2008 Home and Student not a misnomer. I am a tertiary student and my University runs an Exchange email server but also offers Outlook Web Access.

My Windows counterparts have no problems accessing their exchange emails through Microsoft Office Outlook, but alas I cannot access my Exchange email through Entourage 2004.

When Office 2008 came out I was expecting to be able to access my Exchange email now that Entourage was going to be fully compatible with Exchange. But the problem for me is that Office 2008 Home and Student does not offer Exchange compatibility (or at least not the kind that I need). I am a student and I am eligible for the Home and Student edition but I will need to pay more for the full version of Office 2008 (Standard) to have proper Exchange compatibility.

This is a rather unfair anomaly; while I would rightly be able to purchase Office 2008 Home and Student, my main reason for purchasing this new version of Office was the Exchange compatibility but I'm not paying for standard when I can get the student version!

Microsoft, at the very least, should offer tertiary students (like me) some sort of Entourage upgrade or plugin to provide Exchange compatibility for those students (eligible for Office Home and Student) but who also need proper Exchange support.

You've posted to a peer support forum. Send your comments to Microsoft via
the Help menu in Entourage.

Exchange is designed as a business tool, I'm dismayed at the number of
schools deploying it for students. Try going back to wherever you purchased
your copy of Office and telling them you accidentally got the wrong version,
and can you exchange it (no pun intended). If you bought it through your
school, they should be sympathetic.

Entourage 2004 should work for you.

Many colleges offer special pricing for their students for the full version
that contains Exchange. Please contact your school to see what's needed or
what package they can offer you. The Home & Student version cannot be
updated if you find out you need Exchange after opening the box. However,
you can get a refund. I wouldn't bet on this being a quick process.

Microsoft will honor returns through the retailer where you purchased the
product or by contacting Microsoft directly:

My guess is that they renamed Student & Teacher to Home & Student version at
the reduced price without Exchange so that many can now buy with a clear
conscience the reduced price version. The term "student" covers a wide
range. Students in HS wouldn't need Exchange. MSFT might be assuming most
college students that need Exchange would buy through their school's
program.

First, please keep in mind that these newsgroups are peer-to-peer. There
isn't much we can do. The best way is to send feedback to Microsoft .

When working in Office, you can use the ³Send Feedback² option under the
Help menu in all of the Office applications.

Thanks for your feedback.

It is hard to get a contact email or phone number for MSFT.

Firstly, I have not purchased Office 2008, I posted this to get a conversation going. In fact one of the reasons I have not purchased Office 2008 is because of the Exchange anomaly.

And, as surprising at it may seem, Entourage 2004 will not exchange for me. I enter the email address, the OWA address and the POP/SMTP addresses for Exchange but no deal!

Trying out Apple Mail atm to see if that will work but have yet to do a test run...

I know. It's rather frustrating how anti-Mac some organisations, such as my institution, can be!
