Office 2008 Programs Won't Open

I've just encountered a disturbing problem with Microsoft Office on my
Mac Air (OS X.5.7). When I try to boot Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or
Entourage I get the following message:
"Microsoft (Fill-in the name of the Office Program) has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I've
never had this issue with Office 2008 on this or any other computer
on my network. And, yes, each computer has a legitimate copy of Office
2008.

How do I fix this?

BTW I'm running Office 2008 version 12.1.7.
