office 97 will not open visual basic editor on windows xp

Hi all,
have installed office 97 on windows xp pro. Cannot open visual basic editor
in excel. When you click on it, it just clicks and then doesn't open. I'm
sure it is a registry setting becuase of the sharing in windows xp but can't
find a fix. Anyone know of a fix for this?
