Office Problems after Security Updates of last week

JAB

Until the security updates of last week all of my office programs worked just
fine. After the updates I encountered severe issues with IE and to a lesser
extent the office progams. I have read and made the changes discussed in KB
918165 and this sorted a lot but not all of the IE problems. However I am
left with problems, particlularly in Word and Powerpoint and to a lesser
extent in Excel and Outlook. In general these applocations hang when
opening, attachments to emails in outlook cannot be opened etc. In simple
terms the programs are, at present, of limited if any use whatsoever. A
little frustrating!

I have searched everywhere and all of the advice refers to KB918165 but as I
have already actioned this I am at a loss where to go now. I have tried to
post an email support request to Microsoft but IE hangs when it gets to the
data collection stage.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

The http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165 registry modification
works for most people, but a few users have reported that it does
not fix the problem for them. Two other workarounds are to either:
1. Rename the c:\windows\system32\VERCLSID.EXE file to
something like VERCLSID.OLD. This effectively disables the
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908531 (MS06-015) update, but
does not uninstall the update. Renaming the VERCLSID.EXE file
will leave your system unprotected against the issue described at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx .
2. Uninstall the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908531
(MS06-015) update from Start | Control Panel | Add or Remove
Programs. If automatic updates are enabled on your computer,
then the update may be reinstalled automatically. Uninstalling
the MS06-015 update will leave your system unprotected against
the issue described at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx .
