Office Professional 2003

I purchased Office Pro 2003. I have four PCs that I own and use. Can I
install this program on each unit or will I have to purchase another disk?

Have you bothered to read the license agreement???

Which, of course, is not the law so why bother? He would be better off
finding a cracker who could take off the "activate" crap or use Office 2000
that doesn't need to be activated.

Yaknow, I can see how you all could get into a righteous huff over people
who copy software, crack it, and sell it. But getting your panties all up in
a bunch because someone has four computers at home and wants to use software
they bought on all four is pathetic.

You need a license for each PC.
There is a grey licensing area regarding use of a single license on a
desktop and a laptop provided you can prove they are not used concurrently.
But that doesn't cover you for 4 desktops anyway.

Huh? To what in my post are your responding? Seems like nothing.

Those who wish to install Office illegally do not typically ask about
illegal installations in a Microsoft newsgroup.so installation
questions are answered with that in mind.

I don't install Office or any other software illegally. Not my point. My
point is if someone pays hundreds of dollars for software, they should be
allowed to install it on all the computers their family uses. The fact that
MS doesn't let families do that gives rise to piracy, as does the high
price. I post this opinion here because as much as I try, Bill Gates won't
return my call.

So you think by continuing to post your opinion will get Bill Gates to
return your call? ;-)

In case you didn't know, no one from MS hangs out in the newsgroups so
your opinion continues to fall on deaf ears and as a result, all of
the good information you have to share is now being overlooked by
those who are tired of hearing MS rants in a peer-to-peer support
forum.

If you want to change things then there are more effective methods you
can use to achieve your goal. One way is to start trying to help
others out around here instead of waiting for opportunities to post
your opinion. Eventually you may be recognized by MS as one who can
provide them valuable and diplomatic feedback and which point you'll
have the opportunity to be heard. (Who knows, maybe even by Bill.
;-) )

By no means do I disagree with your viewpoint, I'm behind this notion
100% and have provided feedback at every opportunity I've been
presented, but I do disagree with the methods you have been using in
an attempt to get your point made. The majority of us would like to
see changes made in their policies as well (what consumer wouldn't???)
but this simply isn't the correct venue to aggressively pursue this
issue.

Personally I think the fact that Office 2003 S & T Edition can be
installed in three computers is a step in the right direction and it
indicates MS has been listening.

Sorry about the wrong venue. Silly of me to think the MVPs may pass the
message along. I'm glad to hear it's changing, though.

I think you missed this statement I made: "I'm behind this notion 100%
and have provided feedback at every opportunity I've been presented".
We do our best to bring the voice of the user to Microsoft and that's
the main reason I participate in the program - to provide feedback to
Microsoft on how to create better applications and diplomatically
encourage them to change various policies. A couple of my crusades
have been for OEM users, such as providing replacement CD keys, which
has now been changed, and replacement media for OEM users, which I'm
still working on but I think we're making a little progress. :)

But there are different venues we use for this type of feedback -
venues where we have the opportunity to speak directly to those who
can help get policy changed. Trust me, your message has been heard and
to be honest, it's one many of us already feel strongly about and have
been working on for years.

No, if they could come up with a fix for that groovy Do You Want to Compact
window that pops up after you close OE 100 times ...

It can mess up your messages, too. Many have complained that after letting it
do its thing, they reopen OE and no messages.

I compact regularily and don't need a prompt like that.

That's an intersting bit! Altho I would guess I've not opened OE 100
times in my life(including repairs to others machines). Always used
something less dangerous personally. :)

You may want to ask them in an OE/IE newsgroup. I suspect a counter is
saved somewhere when you turn off "compact in background" so
"overwriting the counter" would do the trick.

You're thinking about OE pre SP2.
