Office program open in same window

Before, multiple documents of the same office program
displayed multiple tabs at in the windows toolbar at the
bottom. Now when I open eg 2 or more excel documents, it
just shows the program once on the toolbar and I have to
choose between the file using the old 'window' menu...
what happened?

In Excel, click Tools | Options and check "Windows in Taskbar"?
