office updates no CD

Yours is the only company that requires CDs for an update - both hardware and
software companies! I see you now have a "fullfile" alternative, but I
cannot even figure out how to get the 3 updates it says I need with this
alternative. Come on Microsoft...you've always been the leader..don't be a
follower now. Give us updates without using the CDs every time. I just
moved. The CDs are in a box somewhere! You say there are security issues.
Will you pay for reformatting my computer if some bug gets in because I
cannot get a simple update? Also, I'm no techie, please make it easy for the
website to look at my hard drive, see what I need (and that I have an
authorized copy of your software on my hard drive), and just update what I
need for Windows and Office - please.

Not true. Adobe requires it too.

Kathleen. If it were true that would be only one company out of h ow many?
Actually, I have Adobe products. They require the serial number. If you
don't have it you can log on to their website, answer a few questions, and it
will list all your products and their serial numbers. I didn't see any
responses, Kathleen, to any of my other assertions. Judy again.

Judy:

Give me more information so I can help you. What updates are you trying to
install? You can usually find the fullfile versions in the Microsoft Download
Center (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en) if
you search by the KB Number of that update (KBxxxxxx), try that first.
There are ways to get around the source requirement issue sometimes, but it
depends on the version of Office you're using, what version is it?

We're always working to try and improve your user experience, and expect to
see a combined version of Windows and Office update sites very soon so you
can just visit one site and get what you need.

As for patches requiring the source CD, that's a problem we've been trying
to fix for a while now, we're making some progress, we always try and avoid
that scenario. The Local Installation Sourde (LIS) of Office 2003 goes a long
way in avoiding it completely:
LIS Makes patching easier

If you want to know a few more details on why even very robust patches
require source files you can check out this article:

Hang in there Judy! Don't give up on us just yet :)
