I had computere with office xp installed. The computere
failed. I tried to install office xp standard in my new
compac and microsoft activation told me that I could
install microsoft 2000 xp into 1 desttop and 1 portable
computer. The customer service rep told me that I would
have to buy another office 2000 xp before I could activate
my new computere. PLEASE HELP ME I CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER
COPY. THIS IS A MICROSOFT DIRTY TRICK . DOSE ANY ONE HAVE
THE SAME PROBLEM.

Are you sure? Most of the time, they don't have a problem with this as long
as you have a good enough reason. Computer crashing has always been good
enough for them in the past, unless, your computer "crashed" many time and
reinstalled many times.

If it is an OEM (purchased with the computer) version of Office it is only licensed for the PC and not transferable off said PC. Hence your computer dies your office dies with it.

IMHO this sucks; if you purchased office you own the right to use it no matter what PC it is on

No, you purchased a LICENSE to use Office on the machine on which it is
installed. You do not OWN the software. The OEM license is very specific.
