OfficeXP Error Message--Can't Find Qualifying Program

S

Stu707

After a crash I reinstalled WinXP Home. On trying to start any of my Office
programs I received a message saying to insert startup disk. When I did
this I received an error message saying Can't Find Qualifying Program. I
reinstalled MS Works which is a qualifying program and I still get the
error message. I am certain my product key is good. Prior to the crash I
used the startup disk to install additional components.

How can I get Windows to accept my OfficeXP startup disk(s)?

TIA--Stu

Sorry, but you're wrong. MS Works (any flavour) is *NOT* a qualifying
product for Office XP. There are only two QPs - Office 97 and Office 2000.
If you installed Office XP from those discs before, then you had one of the
aforementioned Office versions - it would *not* have allowed installation to
continue with Works.

If you no longer have (as you obviously don't) the *original* qualifying
product you used to qualify for Office XP, then the licence is null and
void. Once you use a product to qualify the licence is 'assimilated' into
the upgrade and the two are then inseparable. Lose/sell/give away the
qualifying product and you've essentially lost/sold/given away the upgrade
too (in fact, in the case of the latter two, you're legally obliged to hand
over the upgrade too (TTBOMK).

You /can/, however, use an upgrade as a QP for a subsequent Office version,
but then the above rules then apply.

Thank you very much. Fortunately, I still have my O97 disks and will
install that program. I mistakenly thought that MSWorks was the
qualifying product since it came with my system. I had forgotten about
O97.
