On mail merge

Dr. Ernest

This is the third time I am presenting this question.

I am having trouble with something that should be simple and I don't see it
addressed in the MS help with publisher merge letter materials.

I am making membership cards that will be 8 or 10 per printed page.

I want to use mail merge to put the title fname lname into each card.

I have a text box in each card with merged fields title fname Lname.

Of course, when merged the same name is inserted in all the cards for the
whole page

In Word, I can simply put a Next Record code in.

How do I make Publisher insert the next record in each merged field?

I want to use merge letter than catalogue merge if possible.

Thank You,

Dr. Ernest Duke

When you setup your merge, you can only have one membership card on your screen. If
you open the Merge and Catalog Wizard, it will take you through the merge step by
step.
If you are doing a print preview, Publisher has a bug that when you preview it shows
the same entry in every card. You can print a test if you are unsure, the test is on
the print dialog page.

Okay Mary,

I guess we're not communicating well.

Okay, you say that I can only have ONE membership card on my screen.

But How then do I print 8 cards on the same paper page just as I can print
labels or other items with the next record command in Word?

Obviously, I would not want to print one small card per page. I want to do a
whole page and then cut them.

How can I do it easily? Or is there a way to do it so you can see how the
cards line up on the page and tweak it to the right layout.

Thanks,

Dr. E

In page setup, click custom, or labels if the card is a standard size, scroll down to
find one that has your size. Input the size of your card, for example 3.5 x 2
(business card size), click the "change copies per sheet." Adjust the margins and
gaps. Business cards usually are 10 up, so the margins would be .75 side, .5 top and
the gaps zero.
This is how to get one card on your screen, the merge will perform correctly.
Read the article posted earlier in this thread.
Publisher does not have a "next" command. Setup the fields in your text box.

As a forewarning - if you use Print Preview, you will see the same name on
all cards. That's just what Publisher does. When you actually print your
cards, you will get different names on the cards. (We get a lot of posts on
this.)
