ONE files and Offline Cache

I've been using OneNote 2007 to create a journal that can be given to whoever
wants it in the family line after I'm "gone". Along with the things I've
written are attachments of audio and video files. When attaching a file I've
used the "copy to" format, instead of creating a link to a stored file.
Here's my question: If I were to burn a CD/DVD of my notebook (the recipient
would, of course, have to have the appropriate program to open it), would I
have to burn the cache files as well?

The reason I ask is that I've done some space saving by closing OneNote and
deleting the offline cache. When I reopened OneNote I found that all of my
attached audio/video files were "dead" - nothing happened when I clicked on
them. Luckily I hadn't emptied the Recycle Bin and was able to restore all of
the files (at which point the audio/video files worked).

If I understand correctly, the attached files are part of the ONE file
itself (as I can see by the size of the file), and if the cache is deleted
(say, if it becomes corrupted, for example) OneNote would "rebuild" the cache
when opened. If this is true, how long does it take for that rebuild to take
place?

Thanks,

Well, it probably depends a bit upon how large the files are and how
fast your machine is. I would expect that if left overnight, certainly,
that all of the audio/video files added to the cache should have been
committed to the disk by then.

Or am I misunderstanding your question?

Actually, I'm not sure if I understand your reply - which part are you
answering? I guess, if I were to delete the cache, would the attached files
in the ONE pages eventually start working again? Or do I need to maintain the
cache files? And if I need to maintain the cache files, would I need to burn
them along with the ONE files to the CD/DVD I would give to that family
member?

You don't need to burn the cache files to CD and you should be able to
delete the cache files once the content of the cache file has been
committed to the primary data file. The cache file is just an
intermediate step - OneNote does all its work in the cache file, but
that content is, at some point, saved out to the main .ONE files.

Sounds to me like you may have deleted the cache file before OneNote was
able to finish committing that content to the .ONE files.
