One note creating multiple tabs when collaborating?

Hi all,
I am sharing a onenote tab with a friend and we are both updating at the same time. There have appeared several new tabs across the top which have my friends email address and (1), (2), (3) etc…. But the main tab appears to be updated with both of our work regardless.

Is anyone able to explain why these tabs are being created and are they safe to delete please?
