Open File Dialog Help

Mitch

Hello,

I had been using Office 2000 for years without any problems. It was fully
updated to SP-3 and any other security updates.

Just a few days ago, I began having problems with Word... the splash screen
would freeze upon opening the program. I followed the advice provided
online, but that did not correct the problem... I removed and reinstalled
Office 2000 with all updates, I deleted Normal.dot, checked for plug-ins,
tried running winword.exe /a, etc. The only way to get into the program was
to delete Normal.dot, but I could not open any files because the program
would freeze.

I then tried to open .xls files in Excel, and Excel would freeze.

I noticed that the Open File dialog (File -> Open from the menu) was not
functioning properly for all of the Office programs. After selecting a file
from the dialog window, the program would freeze. From the dialog when I
would select a file, it would not appear in the File Open text box. Also,
the program would freeze if I was to select the file preview view. The only
program that allowed me to open a file was Access. This dialog window
appears to be specific to Office, and I have not noticed problems with other
applications. The Save File dialog for Office works fine.

I am not sure if a registry entry was corrupt or deleted, a file was corrupt
or deleted, or if something needed by Office was uninstalled.

Please let me know how to restore File Open dialog window or if you have any
other suggestions on what I could try.

Thanks.

Mitch

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.

Unfortunately, your suggestion did not correct the problem.

When I followed your instructions, I was prompted with the message:
Windows Network: There are no network drives currently connected.

Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.
