Have you tried it? If it doesn't let you, my guess is that you can't do it. I'm curious why you think you should be able to open program files in a different program. I don't think you can open powerpoint presentations in Excel or in Word.

If the doc file uses a style hierarchy, (heading 1, heading 2, body,
etc.) you can select the doc in word and paste into a PowerPoint outline
and it will be a very good draft 1. Much formatting usually required,
though. PowerPoint and Word are just different tools optimally used for
different things.
