Opening Documents in Office 2007

When I go to open an office 2007 document from a folder by double clicking it
or right clicking and then selecting open, they will not open.
I can open documents by opening word first (or whatever office program i am
using) and then open the document from within the program.
Can anyone help to solve this. Thanks

The problem ususally is a damaged file association. It sometimes can be
fixed by running Word with the /r switch (Start, winword.exe /r). If that
doesn't work, my next suggestion would be to repair Word/Office from the
Control Panel (in XP, it's in Add or Remove Programs; in Vista, it's in
Programs and Features; click on Office 2007, then click on Change, then
click on Repair, and then click on Continue).

Hi
Thanks for that Herb. I have repaired office via the control panel
Add/Remove programs (running XP) and documents are opening but the response
is very slow. It is taking a couple of minutes for the document to open.
Any suggestions?

Managed to solve the problem. In the end I found the solution that worked.
Went to folder options in control panel.
clicked on file types tab
scrolled down list to the relevant document type (.doc, .docx, .xls etc)
highlight it and click advanced.
Highlight Open and click on edit.
Remove tick from Use DDE check box
In Application used to perform action field, right arrow to the end of the
line, remove any references to DDE from the line (if there are any) and type
"%1" at the end of the line with a space between the last thing that is
already on the line and the first quote mark.

Hope that makes sense.
