Opening File Error

I recently installed Microsoft Office XP, and am having a
problem with Word. When I try to open any of my old word
docs the following error appears. "The file ___.doc is
unavailable" The ___being the filename. Nothing happens
and the file fails to open. I REALLY NEED HELP. COULD
ANYBODY GIVE ME SOME ADVICE?
