When opening a document from w/in MS Word the document seems to be corrupt. but when opening the same document from the source location ( not from w/in MS Word) the document is fine. Why is this happening? What can I do to resolve this? And what can I do to avoid this in the future?

Go to File > Open and check what's showing in the Files of Type list. By the
sounds of it, you have 'Recover text from any document' selected. If so,
change it to 'Word documents'.

What program are you using to open the document for its source location? Is
it a Word document?
