Opening project from PWA

S

Stuart

Hi,

This is a complicated and long request.

We are currently implementing a very large installation
that has about 6,000 projects and 8,500 resources. The
plans generally run between 2 and 20 years each.

Portfolio managers need to be able to organise their
plans and use filtering on the PWA and save these as
links. The amount of data becomes unmanageable without
these filters.

Additionally, because we are world-wide organisation, we
have the servers installed in Europe with users across
the globe. The networks are not fast enough on their own
and we run in a Citrix environment to allow for
reasonable response times.

My problems are:
1. We cannot open plans in Citrix from the PWA if we do
not have Project Professional installed on the desktop.
The Open icon does not appear in the web page.
2. If we do have project professional installed on the
desktop, the open goes to the desktop and not the Citrix
version. This happens even if we open plans directly
using Citrix.
3. If we collaborate from the Project area to the PWA
(trying to circumvent the above issue) then links
disappear and the list of plans becomes unmanageable (we
do not want to rebuild the links every time that we sign
in and out).

Can someone please help.

Thanks

Stuart

We have dealt with something related to this in the past with some in house apps,
if I gather you configuration properly...
You have Project installed on your Citrix box(s
You have a Project Server installed on X web server.

What I believe you are going for is that when X person uses the project server and invokes the project, to have project (exe) launch from the Citrix platform.

First question would be have you tried this by running it from the Citrix server console to validate that it works from that server. If so, the next step would be to run it from a Citrix Desktop session ( not just publishing the web browser ) , If that works, Publish IE and try to run it from the Published IE app

if you run IE from Citrix that should solve it for you .. but, if it breaks at the last test, what likely going on is that component that detects project is looking on the Remote users drive for it.

This can happen, based on your citrix configuration when you instruct citrix to treat the remote users drive "C" as the local drive "C" on the citrix server. To get around that, install project on a different drive on the Citrix server, "M" for example

Might also check the Citrix News groups and support center for more information.

Hope that helps.

- Matt.
