Opening Publisher 2000 file with Pub 2002

I think I have a system conflict issue. I have Publisher 2002 running on Win98 -- very nicely, thank you. I've been given a Publisher file created in Publilsher 2000 on WinXP. I can't get into it. "Publisher can't open this file." Is this another example of operating system interference confounding file exchange between computers? Appreciate the info.

Ron,

Can you send the file in question to me? (e-mail address removed)

Are either systems running Norton Antivirus?

The Pub file alone is 92MB, which seems excessive considering the linked (I guess) images sent along with it. There are three images of around 3 MB and 7 which are all under 100K. Perhaps they've embedded some things and linked others.

My system has NAV and I've tried disabling the auto-protect feature which didn't help. The script blocking is the only thing running in background.

Script blocking needs to be disabled as well.

Also, the Pub file before Pack and Go is 67MB. I assume packing is embedding fonts and stuff, but a 30MB jump seems a bit excessive

I've run the file through the PageMaker 7.0 Quark/Publisher conversion plug-in and have seen what the file is kinda supposed to look like. It is nothing special that would warrant such a huge file. it's just a 6 page newsletter -- mostly text with a few small pictures and clipart. PageMaker needs a missing font -- Aerial Unicode MS which might be an issue, but shouldn't stop the opening of a file

Script blocking in NAV can prevent it from opening. The problem with
Publisher 2000 is that it stores your graphics uncompressed, greatly
increasing the size of your file into a ridiculous size.

Hi there

To make sure the file has not been damaged, please try
and do the following:

Open Publisher
File>Open
Single-click the file then on the right of the Open
button there is a down-arroe. Click on that and
choose "Open and Repair".

See if that helps.

Regards

CJ
