Organization chart custom data fields

I tried to add custom data fields to organization shapes on a custom stencil.
But I cannot seem to be able to automatically get my custom fields to
display and the default fields not to display. Any time I try to edit the
master shape, the default fields display even if I have deleted them and do
not show up in the master.

I also cannot get rid of the default fields using the "Remove existing data
sets" box. I have to do it all by hand. And now the shapes in the default
stencil I automatically get the default fields as well as fields labeled
"Row_1" to "Row_8."

Does anyone know what is wrong?

Thank you.

Try doing it through Options of the Organization Chart menu. You specify the
choices through the Text and Fields tabs.

Unfortunately all I can seem to do with those tabs is disply what information
automatically displays on the shapes themselves. The fields that I am
looking to fix are the ones in the Shape Data Window. Sorry; don't think I
was clear about that.

How were the extra custom properties added?

Visio is expecting a certain pattern of behaviour for the Org Chart Wizard.
The wizard can handle extra custom poerties, but they have to be added in a
specific manner. If you need extra custom properties, they need to be in the
original data file used to create the org chart.

So if you used an Excel spreadsheet, you can add an extra column for each
new custom property. These custom properties will be accessible through the
Org Charts Option dialog. If the Org Chart was created by hand, you can
export to Excel and then add the columns. You can NOT edit the shapes and
add new custom properties. These will not export.
