Outlook 2000 mail dialog box??

When I ask Outlook 2000 to send and receive email the Outlook mail dialog
box appears.
It use to disappear when it had sent and received the email.
Now it does not disappear as it used to to.
I haven't changed anything that I know of. Does anyone have and idea what is
happening?
