Outlook 2000 pulls email...

Hello,

My Outlook 2000 version pulls email from my ISP's server after the
application has been closed. In other words, when I close Outlook I
want to be able to view my email at work from my ISP's webmail viewer,
but most often the emails are being pulled to how I have Outlook
configured, i.e. check mail every 15 minutes.

I thought Outlook wouldn't check for email (and pull accordingly)
unless the application was running?!

Does anyone know what preference/configuration I can change to make it
function as I prefer?

Thanks much,

Paul

Might you be running something that's keeping Outlook alive in the
background? Things like a fax program, etc

Vince,

No other programs are keeping Outlook open that I am aware. Plus, I am
definitely not using a fax program.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Paul

Have you installed anything recently? Also, after you quit Outlook does
Outlook.EXE still show up in Task Manager?

Vince,

Yes, after closing all instances of Outlook I noticed that it was an
active process in Task Manager.

After 'end tasking' all seems fine, but have you any guess as to why
the process was still running after closing it?

Thanks,

Paul

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click
either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.

After furious head scratching, (e-mail address removed) asked:

Hello,

My Outlook 2000 version pulls email from my ISP's server after the
application has been closed. In other words, when I close Outlook I

I have the same problem, when I close Outlook 2000 it stays running
without any window and pulls email...
So I always have to use Task Manager to kill it.
And today I discovered that my wife has the same problem, I looked in
her Task Manager and found six instances of Outlook.exe still running
but no window in sight!

So now we are three, you, my wife and me. Our PC:s here are fairly
new, mine is a 3 weeks old Dell Dimension and my wife's is 9 months
old (HP). She has XP-Home and I have XP-Pro, both fully patched.
We do not have any fax or other similar software installed as was
suggested by another post.
But we have Norton AntiVirus with email checking. We are running
different versions, on mine there is a Norton AntiSpam feature that I
don't like but when the Internet Security was installed it came in
automatically and now I cannot get rid of it. The toolbar stays on in
Outlook even though I have switched off the feature in the Norton
Command center and unchecked the toolbar in Outlook. It returns every
time I start Outlook...

If it really is the Norton AV that is causing this, then how can one
cure that???
