Outlook 2002 not exiting

Outlook is not always exiting. There will be no
evivdence of Outlook still running on the desktop,
however if I go to Task manager, sometimes I will see one
or more Outlook.exe processes still running. I have to
end them manually. Does anyone know what might be
causing this?

This could be caused by your virusscanner/firewall. Try disabling those and
see if it still happens. See if you are running your virusscanner/firewall
and Office with all the latest updates as well.

The problem is that it is sporadic. I don't have a
software firewall running, and I'm not willing to turn my
virus protection off. Office does have all of the latest
updates. Anything else?

Still your virusscanner. Some virusscanner create a second instance of
Outlook to pass along a scan message. Therefor turning of the virusscanner
is a good step to troubleshoot. Just disable it and send yourself some test
messages with and without attachments to identify whether Outlook or the
virusscanner is the problem.
