Outlook 2003 .pst files automatically duplicating

Help! My outlook .pst file has 1.6 gigs of duplicated
messages. Outlook will no longer accept any more emails &
I can't get into the file to sort out what needs to be
deleted. I tried deleting the whole file but then I lost
everything - all contacts, address book , all emails etc.

Is this a .PST file created in an earlier version of Outlook? If so, 1.6GB
is dangerously close to the 2GB limit. Have you tried running scanpst.exe
(Inbox Repair Tool) against the file to see if it can fix any errors? Make
sure you let the tool make a backup of your file before it repairs anything.
