You can type it in the windows search bar - click on the windows logo, bottom
left corner and then where it says Start Search - type in Outlook /safe

I am using a Windows Vista laptop with RPC over HTTP in Outlook 2007 and I
get the same error everytime I close. I did create a new profile. I opened
in safe mode and got a message that there was a problem with the add in
"outlookaddin" and it was disabled. I removed the google sidebar and also
disabled the google toolbar add in in Outlook, but am still getting the
message. Any other ideas would be appreciated. I also checked the registry
and set the load values to 0 for the addins that were there.

Thank you Leon but you ignored my question which was how do I find the
"run" option in Windows Vista? A nd without that information I can't follow
the rest of your suggestions.

Click the WIndows button at the far left of the Task bar. There should be a
Run item available.

No there isn't - have you got a different Windows Vista from me?. - but i
realise now that 000Stewie has answered my question (first time I have used
a discussion group like this and I was looking at the wrong message - thanks
Stewie) - I can type Outlook/safe into the search box apparently. I will try
that.

Just live with it then. It's harmless. Usually goes away probably after

Just open your previous data file in the new profile and set it to be

Hi - thanks for your fast response. Probably because the suggestion
didn't
say to do that and the link didn't explain how to do it - I thought the
suggestion was just testing whether a new profile would work or not.

What do I need to do?

Thanks

"Very little in it?" Why? Did you not migrate your data to the new
profile?

Hi

I am running Outlook 2007 in Windows Vista. I have tried the
various
remedies within this thread to no avail. The new profile I have
created
doesn't have the data file error - but then there is very little in
it!

I have also run the scanpst.exe prgram which comes with Outlook (as
recommended in the Outlook help section of this website). This
seems
to
fix
the issue for a short time (eg one close and re-open) but then I am
back
to
the same error.

:

Hi,

It seems this does not occur with Outlook /safe. Please try the
following
steps to resolve this issue:

* Step 1: Disable Outlook add-ins
================

1. Select Tools>Options>Other>Advanced Options>Add-In Manager and
then
clear all the checkboxes.
2. Add one check back each time to the list of Add-In, restart
Outlook,
and repeat the above procedure. Once the issue reappears again, we
can
determine which add-in causes this problem and then disable it.

* Step 2: Disable Instant Messaging
=================

1. Start Outlook. Click Tools>Options.
2. On the Other tab, uncheck "Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft
Outlook". Click OK to save the settings.
3. Restart Outlook.

* Step 3: Disable Word Editor:
=================

1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Mail Format.
2. Click to clear the "Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages"
check
box.

Meanwhile, for the scenario Russ has reported, I have already
forwarded
it
to our related team, and I am sure they will take a look at this.

No, as plain vanilla Outlook doesn't have this issue. Outlook not closing
properly is caused by an addin. Have you tried to determine which addin that
is already?

Same issue with Outlook 2003. I am using Outlook Connector to retrieve my
hotmail. When I shut down the computer I receive an "end process" prompt for
Outlook. When I reboot and start Outlook I always get the "data file not
closed properly" message. I am extremely worried that one day my file will
not come back.

I have read many posts on this issue with no real resolution. I have a
work-around which might help.

1. Download and install Microsoft Personal Folders Backup Tool from:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA100758021033.aspx

2. Under the options for this tool ask to be reminded to backup every day
3. Do not close down Microsoft Outlook until you are ready to log off and
shut down your PC i.e. keep it open whilst you are working on your PC
4. Before final shut down ensure you back up using the above tool before
exiting Outlook and shutting down. You can do this as a result of the
message automatically produced for you to backup or force a backup by
clicking on Backup from the File drop down menu in Outlook.

It is very important you perform the backup before you close down as this
seems to be the trigger that stops the issue which we are all concerned about.

Having followed this procedure each time the message has not come back for
me. It also has the advantage of creating a backup of your Outlook on a
daily basis.

Hope it helps.
