Outlook 2007 will not close except through task manager

Installing Office 2007 SP1 Ent Vol Lic using OCT. All is working fine except
when a new user/profile opens Outlook first the User Name windows opens and
then goes away. We are not able to close Outlook without using Task Manager
to kill it. Then we open Work or Excel and click OK to the User Name Outlook
will work fine.

What can I do to either get the User Name window to stay with Outlook or
what setting in OCT can I use to not have the User Name window open?

I am having a similar problem. I installed Office Professional 2007 several
months ago, and it had no problems until recently. I load Outlook, then close
it, then run some other program. When I try to re open Outlook, nothing
happens. Then when I try to shut down or restart Windows, it says I have to
close Outlook first. So it’s been running in the background, but I can’t open
it until I restart. I’ve run Diagnostics many times. Any thoughts?

I created an account here just to say I've got the exact same problem
described here. I've run Office 2007 for awhile and recently just
installed it on a fresh built computer. Both my wife and the admin
account can connect with outlook and it works fine. I've deleted and
recreated my account with the same problem happening. I open Outlook
for the first time, the 'Enter first name and Initial' dialog appears
for a second and then the RSS feed dialog. I don't get a chance to
enter a first name and initial before it disappears. After that,
Outlook will not close unless I kill the process in Task Manager.
Everytime I open it, the 'Enter first name and initial' dialog appears
for a split second and then fades away, leaving me with the same issue
of Outlook not closing. I'm still trying to figure out why the other
two accounts on the same computer will work just fine. Even when I
delete my account and delete the profile directory, it still occurs
upon it's rebuild.

I am having the same exact problem at work on one computer. We have two
versions of office 2007 we have pro and small business. the computer that has
the small business will have about 3 users or 4 using it and all need access
to there own email and when you create a new user on it has this exact same
problem. Our computer with the office Pro version has 3 users and has no
problems. Both computers are running windows xp Pro.

I have found the FIX.... Here is how you fix this issue. It has took me a
little while today but I have figured out what to do. This is easy. go to
Add/Remove programs, Check the show updates, and Then Uninstall KB946983
update. I then after configuring my users on Outlook I reinstalled KB946983
and bingo it is all good. Except make sure you note this update to uninstall
if you add new users in the future.

and I am happy to provide this fix. from northern Minnesota here at
Wilderness Family Naturals.

I did also test this more than once and it does work. Hope it works for you
also. It should. LOL Microsoft needs to update their update on this one.

I opened Word and was prompted for and entered the Name and Initials and
clicked ok, closed Word and then killed Outlook with task manager. Now
Outlook works properly.

Nice lol I did not try that but it looks like that would work and be faster
than unistalling the update. just wish MS would fix the update.

I checked. I don't seem to have that update installed, so that can't be causing the problem. Any other ideas.
