outlook doesn't work

I installed the Office XP (2002) version on my computer,
and everything works fine except Outlook...

When i start Outlook, I get the message: "Unable to
display information from the file system or Outlook.Could
not open the item. Try again." then I am asked if I want
to see the "My computer files", with the options [Yes] -
for which the result is just the use of outlook as a file
explorer - or [No] for which outlook closes by itself...

I tried then to creat an e-mail acount within "Outlook
Express", which works, and then I tried to oen again
Outlook... This time I got the message:
"Unable to display the folder. This is the root of an
IMAP store. The root does not contain messages but may
have subfolders that do. To see messages in the
subfolders, display the folder list, and then click the
subfolder."...

The only difference from the previous case is that
Outlook "sees" the e-mail account and open it as
an "image", displaying in the "Outlook Shortcuts" bar a
sort of link to this account (as "imap.univ.edu -
Inbox")...

But, at this point I still can't accually use Outlook,
since there is no Calendar, Contacts, etc (none of the
regular "functions" of Outlook)

I tried to look on the web for some tips, but I couldn't
find any useful info so far...

I'm open to any good suggestions or links,

Thank you for your time,

Florentin

You have incorrectly defined your Outlook mail account.
