Outlook Express 6--Message opens automatically

In Outlook Express, when I open an email from the inbox
it opens in a new window. When I deleted that email, the
next email in the inbox opens automatically in a new
window. This doesn't happen if this was the last email
on the list in the inbox. I cannot find a setting to
turn this off. Can anyone help?
