Outlook running in background all the time

Can anyone help me please? My Outlook 2003 is always starting up when I
retart my computer. The program is not in the foreground but it runs un the
background and my pc alerts me when new emails arrive. This is a problem as
it is causing problems with me other programs as I CAN'T SHUT this auto start
off. I can't understand how this feature got turned on and can'd find how to
have it so that the only time Outlook is "on" is when I start the program.

DL, I've checkek my msconfig startup file and also the startup with "start
startup" and I can't find any programs that look like Outlook programs that
are being started. Thoughts?

If you have msconfig, disable all startups, reboot to test.
If OL is running it will show in Task Manager/Processes (Outlook.exe)
If still running, in msconfig, Services hide all MS services disable the
rest, reboot to test.

Are you using any sync software, like for a PDA, or other apps that use
outlook's data?

Do you have a Sony computer?
