Outlook/Word attachment

I am not sure if this is an Outlook or a Word question. Both programs are 2003. When in Word, and my user wants to send the file as an attachment, she selects File - Send To - Mail Recipient (As Attachment). This all goes well. Then she selects the address book, and then selects the show names from the - to select the users to send the document to. At this point (The problem just started to happen) her screen freezes. The drop down for the show names doesn't drop down. To get the program to respond we have had to bring up the Task Manager. We do not force the program to close because it starts to respond at that time. If the user attaches the document within Outlook it does fine. She uses the Word method frequently and would like to continue this way if I can find a solution.
